AAMP 2007 Highlights

Apartment Excellence Awards had 74 entries from 14 property management companies participate with a successful awards ceremony at the Level Club Lounge in the strip district.  Helping in the judging were members of BAMP, the Northeast Ohio Apartment Association and the Pittsburgh Appraisal Institute.

The Apartment Vendor Tour over 100 members visited the recently renovated Cork Factory in the Strip District, and our Apartment Industry Trade Show in March hosted 250 industry professionals visiting 40 vendor displays.

Educational Seminars - 2 maintenance seminars on topics covering new plumbing technologies and regulatory changes effecting HVAC systems and a leasing seminar attended by 100 property management professionals

We supported our political action fund by raising in excess of $7000 through numerous fundraising activities including an Opening Day Pirate Baseball and Barbeque, a fishing trip on Lake Erie and the annual Sporting Clay for Housing event.

We raised funds during our first, hopefully annual, golf outing at Alcoma Golf Club where 88 golfers enjoyed a terrific day of networking.

The Apartment Association’s collaboration with IREM included a joint general membership meeting in January on the economic health of the industry and working together on legislative and government affairs issues.

AAMP provided financial support for the continuing legal challenge of a City of Pittsburgh Ordinance that resulted in Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court overturning a city ordinance that would have regulated the business practices of hiring sub-contracting companies that perform maintenance and security services to apartment complexes in the City.  

AAMP continues to represent the region’s apartment industry on legislative and government matters that impact our industry, including successfully fighting off proposals to increase the real estate transfer tax statewide, and then also removing this tax from the list of funding sources that would have given Allegheny County the ability to levy this tax to help pay for mass transit in Allegheny County.  We also provided comment and advice to members of the state legislature on numerous proposals that would amend the state’s Landlord and Tenant Law involving security deposits, evictions and recovery of rent, and continue our never-ending fight against Pittsburgh city government’s attempts to license rental property activities and increase regulations involving tenant behavior, rental unit inspections and management practices.

We have an active membership that enjoys the camaraderie, friendship and business alliances of the Apartment Association. We are a strong voice in our industry. Please take advantage of all your association membership has to offer you.  I look forward to seeing you at the many meetings and activities in the coming year!
